Real Steel

Viliamu aka Wild Thing turned 5 years old yesterday! In honor of the big event we took him to see Real Steel. Ron and I had both heard fairly good buzz on this movie and it had several things we thought a 5 year old boy would enjoy – boxing, robots, special effects and hip hop music.

I was worried that the special effects would be too much like the Transformers movies. The robots in Real Steel didn’t move so fast that you couldn’t tell what was going on. The Transformers movie give me  a headache – sensory overload. What was good about watching boxing robots versus people is that is that robots don’t bleed so much as they leak fluid. It’s easier to watch. There were good guys, bad guys and silly guys. There were good robots, bad robots and even a silly robot.

Even though there were some special effects and robots, this was a relationship movie about a boy and a dad. There were even some “Rocky” moments in it. It’s been a while since we took Wild Thing to a movie and all 3 of us really enjoyed it – good stuff. Besides, I forgot to mention that Hugh Jackman is in it – even a bad movie with Hugh in it is worth seeing.

Just the thing for the 5 year old! And apparently not too much for the adults. Wish him a happy birthday from me!
